Rosie's Fight Against The Wilms

It’s being over a month since my return to work after 4 hard months away. My eldest Daughter Rosavelle, was diagnosed with stage 3 Wilms Cancer (Children’s Kidney Cancer) Just like that, we had to drop everything and make a dash to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane where the family & I would call it home during those months.

Rosie immediately started receiving chemotherapy every week until the lead up to her surgery to have the tumour and right kidney removed. I have laid her in the surgeons arms, I have spent many nights sleeping upright in the hospital, I have watched her get picked and prodded daily, I have listened to her cries & frustrations that she had enough and she wanted to go home, I have watched her childhood get striped from her. Despite all of the trauma , Rosie found strength & courage to keep pushing forward and fight the monster that wanted her dead. As a parent, nothing prepared me for this life changing event, there was no warning, no sign nor message of what was to come. All I could do is just be a dad and give her comfort and hope, because hope gave her courage.

Fast forward 4 months, Rosie received the news that she had achieved remission, praise God! We are so happy to be home and to watch Rosie get her life back, to get our lives back.

Despite Rosie being remission free, she still has 3 more sessions of chemotherapy before knock off. I would like to thank my family, friends, colleges and strangers who showed their love and support. I would like to thank the Oncologists, Surgeons, Doctors, nurses & all other staff members at QCH who helped Rosie defeat cancer. I hope that telling Rosie’s story, the world continues to fund and support research for a cure to rid of the disease.
