Roseanna Ivory, Investment Manager - National Careers Week 2022
Our final colleague of the week is Roseanna Ivory, an Investment Manager on our European Equities desk. Roseanna came through our graduate programme in the 2015 intake. We sat with Roseanna to find out more about her experience:?
“I originally read History at university, and, like most of my friends, thought that I wanted to study law, but I realised pretty quickly after a few placements, that this wasn’t actually what I wanted to do, and so I tried a variety of different things trying to figure out what I wanted. I didn’t consider myself to be numerical, so finance and asset management wasn’t an obvious career choice for me, but I secured an internship here, and then went on to the Graduate Programme in 2015.?
During my time on the programme, I rotated through Marketing, Operations and Multi Asset desks – and I loved the chance to network right across the business. I think that’s one of the best things about a graduate scheme is that you can build a strong network of contacts – and that really helps when you find your permanent role.?

As an Investment Manager, my role is to invest people’s money in companies where I feel there will be an attractive return, both from a financial and a sustainable point of view, across the next five, ten or even 15 years. Through this, I get to meet some incredibly interesting and inspiring people including CEOs of multinational companies. I also get to participate in some great opportunities within abrdn, including colleague charity groups, sports and industry initiatives like Girls Are INvestors (GAIN).?
I think if you are looking for your next step into the working world, try to be curious, work hard and speak to as many people as you possibly can. You never know where a conversation can take you. Also, always remember that being different is a good thing. You don’t need to be the same as everyone else to succeed.”
