A Rose For Nora Wompi

Nora Wompi's painting is so beautiful to live with. The artwork's luscious colours and sensuous paint remind me of her sweet granite nature. Nora Nungurrayi and Kumantjayi Nampitjin, often inseparable, were so kind to me with their Maparn (traditional healer) skills when I wasn't feeling well one time.
'Wompi' and Kumantjayi took me into the bush from Balgo Hills, (top left corner of the Tanami Desert) boiled a billy over a quickly flaming fire, and started gently singing. Secret medicine trickled into thick black tea, Kumantjayi's steady touch warmed my sore ribs and the wise ladies bade their time, lulling, watchful, as they opened the path for my un-wellness to shift away with the wind.
Warlayirti Artists artworks are on view by appointment in Melbourne until early January 2016. You are invited to email Helen at palya.com.au for details.
