Rose Sea Glass and Depression Glass

Well this was star find on one of my sea glass safaris and it will soon be drilled to make a rare pendant.
It's an unusual colour for such an old piece and like the lavender glass, it can be attached to a specific time in history. It is from the original 'depression glass' produced from 1929 to 1939, give or take a year or two, and is much sort after by collectors, and sea glass hunters alike. Why? It is the most popular of the depression glass colours.
The element used to make this colour was manganese, which also gave lavender its colour. In this instance the element was used to neutralise the iron within the silica and again like lavender, would react to UV light resulting in various shades of pink. The more expensive version is adding gold which would produce pink to the more sort after red, depending on the quantity of gold.
Over the last decade rose pink has become very popular in both clothing and interior design and this piece of sea glass may prove popular addition to the shop. It will certainly make a beautiful and significant necklace when it is finished..I better be careful when drilling it, although there are no guarantees!!!
