Rose Bruford: first UK drama school to go Fossil Free! ??
People & Planet
The UK’s largest student activist network campaigning for social and climate justice
Rose Bruford College has become the first UK drama school to reject all fossil fuel investments!?A?HUGE congratulations?to the student organisers who campaigned so hard to make this happen. This victory is yours!
Now, we're?supporting students?demanding Rose Bruford?Divest Borders,?because the?fight to centre justice?cannot end here. To truly adopt a position of social and climate justice, the university must also?commit to excluding?the companies?profiting?from the?detention, deportation, surveillance and persecution?of people moving within and across borders.
Theatre and the performing arts have a?fundamental role?to play in?experimenting with, and building alternative worlds and visions?of the future.?A future where frontline communities facing?the injustices?of extractive fossil fuel operations and the climate crisis are those shaping the course of the Just Transition out of it. A future where the?right to move?is extended?to all,?and not just the?privileged few.?And a future where it is?simply understood?that?public institutions shouldn't be?profiteering from global injustice.
Climate and migrant justice are deeply entwined. Both require the?centring?of demands from those on their frontlines. Our campaigners have already fought to establish that the university has a?duty?to consider?more than just profit?when considering it's investment strategy, but the concepts of?solidarity and justice?must?extend?to those on the frontlines of?resistance against?the hostile environment?too.

We must now demand that the?companies profiting?from the borders that have been drawn?across the world,?from state lines to those within our hospitals, schools and universities,?are not seen?as acceptable investments either.?Sign the petition?and?support the students?demanding that?Rose Bruford?build on their?divestment from fossil fuels?by committing to?divest from the border industry?next.
Our student network?ensures UK universities are held accountable?for the links they have with companies complicit in global injustice. Our support for them underpins all of our work at?People & Planet. As does solidarity with those facing the sharp edge of these injustices.
With Divest Borders really building in momentum, we'd really appreciate?any support?you could?provide us.?If you have?the means,?please consider?helping us out with a donation?so that we can keep offering?in-depth support?to our student network.?And if you've not the funds, sharing?our work?and?petitions?with your pals is just as important!
