Rosatom has developed nuclear fuel for the RITM-200 C marine reactors for the future four upgraded floating power units

By order of TVEL JSC, the designers of Afrikantov OKBM JSC have released a technical design of the reactor core of the RITM-200S reactor. The technical designs of the fuel element (fuel element), the rods of the burn-out absorber and the starting neutron source were developed by specialists of VNIINM named after A.A. Bochvar (JSC "VNIINM", part of the Fuel Division of Rosatom), the technical designs of the absorbing elements and emergency protection rods were developed by the designers of JSC "Afrikantov OKBM". The production of the core will be mastered at the Machine-building plant in Elektrostal (JSC "MSZ", the enterprise of the Fuel Company Rosatom "TVEL").

The project of the upgraded floating power unit includes two RITM-200 reactor units with a nominal thermal capacity of 198 MW each. Compared with the current Akademik Lomonosov NPP, floating power units of the new generation will be distinguished by higher economic efficiency with an increased level of safety. The active zone for the RITM-200S reactor plant has four times more energy resources than the active zone for the KLT-40S reactor plant of the existing NPP, as well as an extended service life of nuclear fuel (before its overload with replacement with fresh fuel). The interval between fuel overloads for the RITM-200C is about five years, which is about twice as high as that of the Akademik Lomonosov NPP. #smr
