During Antiquity, red wine produced by the Greeks and much later by the Romans appeared to have rather a clear nuance. In Rome, it was called Vinum Clarum, because the juice derived from crushed grapes would ferment cleared from its coloring substance such as skin and pulp.
Reaching Provence at the beginnig of our era, Romans were already familar with the Rosé of Marseille (then Massalia). Mastering the trade networks enabled them to sell their Pink Wine all around the Mediteranean. This is how Provence became the cradle of Pink wine which endures today.
