Rooted in Purpose: Archana Malasi’s Journey of Growth and Giving

Beyond work, Archana is a storyteller at heart, finding inspiration in conversations with children and the elderly during her solo travels. Whether listening to the untold tales of mountain dwellers or reflecting through poetry, she remains deeply connected to people and their stories both in her personal and professional life.

From the serene mountains of Uttarakhand to the dynamic world of fundraising, Archana Malasi’s journey is one of resilience, purpose, and unwavering passion. As the Manager of Individual Fundraising at Bhumi, Archana plays a crucial role in driving meaningful change, but her story extends far beyond the walls of the non-profit sector. It is a tale of self-discovery, adaptability, and an unyielding commitment to impact.

A Life Shaped by the Mountains

Born in Patiala and raised in Rishikesh, Archana’s connection with nature has always been profound. Growing up in the lap of the Himalayas, she embraced a simple life - one that kept her grounded in values of sustainability and self-reliance. She practices subsistence farming, grows her own food, and finds solace in the company of her cows - her best listeners, as she fondly calls them.

But Archana’s world was never just about the quiet countryside. Her love for numbers and data drove her toward economics, a subject she pursued passionately during her Bachelor’s in Arts. This love for analytical thinking became the foundation of her career, steering her into marketing, fundraising, and ultimately, the non-profit sector.

A Professional Path Paved with Purpose

Archana's professional journey began in journalism. She pursued her Master’s in Mass Communication and Journalism in Delhi, interning with several news channels. However, she soon realized that her calling lay elsewhere. She pivoted to sales, working with organizations like CRY and HelpAge India, where she honed her fundraising skills.

Facing rejections in fundraising taught Archana resilience. From knocking on doors in industrial and residential areas to convincing people to support meaningful causes, she learned the art of storytelling, persuasion, and persistence. "As the youngest in my family, I was not used to rejection, but fundraising changed that. It taught me patience and the power of purpose-driven conversations," she shares.

Her career evolved as she took on digital marketing and operations roles, working with Mera Kisaan Foundation and leading initiatives for farmers’ rights. She also worked as a Global Social Media Strategist for an IT company, handling large-scale campaigns. Yet, amid all these transitions, one question lingered in her mind - "Am I truly making an impact?"

This introspection led her to Bhumi, where she found the perfect synergy between her skills and her passion for social change. Now, as a ChangeDriver at Bhumi, Archana is at the forefront of individual fundraising, working tirelessly to mobilize resources for underprivileged children and communities.

Beyond Work: The Poet, the Traveler, and the Storyteller

Archana’s love for Urdu poetry adds another dimension to her personality. She finds comfort in the verses of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Ghalib, appreciating the depth and simplicity with which they capture complex human emotions. "Urdu poetry is like a warm hug for the soul. It expresses emotions we often struggle to put into words," she says.

A solo traveler at heart, Archana embarks on yearly trips to Uttarakhand and Himachal, seeking new perspectives and deeper connections. Whether engaging in conversations with children or elders, she finds inspiration in listening to people’s stories.

Her quirks? She swears by jaggery with ragi chapati, a classic Uttarakhand staple, and indulges in ice creams even in peak winters - an unusual yet delightful habit that she happily embraces.

A Story of Growth, Impact, and Passion

Archana Malasi’s journey is a testament to the power of adaptability and passion. From crunching numbers in economics to crafting fundraising strategies, from journalism to marketing, and from city life back to her roots in the mountains, she has constantly evolved while staying true to her purpose.

At Bhumi, she is not just raising funds - she is transforming lives. And in doing so, she continues to inspire others to find their own path, embrace challenges, and create change in ways both big and small.

At Bhumi, she’s not just raising funds, she’s raising hope. And through her journey, she reminds us that purpose is not just found in what we do, but in the lives we touch along the way.
