A Room With a (Different, But Not Bad) View

A Room With a (Different, But Not Bad) View

The pandemic is causing me to re-assess. It is helping me to see things through a different window, if you will. What I may have thought was critical or, on the other hand, unnecessary, has changed. My belief in the certainty of things is shattered, but perhaps my certainty was a mirage anyway. I wonder if this is true for you as well. I suspect it may be. Shall we compare notes?

  1. My home is smaller than I thought. This could be a big problem of competing spaces, but my husband, my pets and I have negotiated a good routine when it comes to giving one another space (think closed doors, but easy access).
  2. My dog needs to get out of the apartment more often than I’d like. She’s old and slow, but our numerous walks give me time to reflect and ideate as we enjoy the summer sun.
  3. I must wear a mask in the grocery store. And I choose to wear one when I’m in public spaces, including when I am walking the dog (she, however, chooses not to wear one). I feel healthy and energized.
  4. I sit on my butt a good portion of the day…thank heavens for a beautiful nature preserve where I start my day with an energizing walk.
  5. My connection with other humans is different. I am not, however, disconnected from them. Thank you Zoom.
  6. I am cooking dinner every night. It is seriously cheaper this way…and I’m becoming a better cook!
  7. I spend time reflecting, praying and reviewing life every day. Such a blessing of silence, insight and hope.
  8. The primary way I see friends and colleagues is over Zoom. Surprise, they look and sound the same as they always have. In fact, the communication may be more effective without all the other distractions usually present (and if you are lucky enough to have a private space).
  9. Work is getting done!! I am finding that I have better focus and am more willing to try some new strategies and tactics.
  10. I am blessed. And I pray that you too can find your own sense of hope, peace and a fruitful perspective in this new world we all share.
  11. Let me know what you discover!
