No Rooftop Left Behind: Join Ireland's Solar Revolution!
Irish Solar Energy Association (ISEA)
Trade Association for the Irish solar industry
In this special issue, we’re excited to share our "No Rooftop Left Behind" campaign, aimed at ensuring every suitable rooftop in Ireland harnesses the power of solar energy. With over 1 million homes ready for solar PV installation and 100,000 rooftops already connected, now is the time to join the solar revolution.
Celebrating a Milestone: 100,000 Rooftops Reached!
We're thrilled with ESB 's announcement that we have reached a significant milestone: 100,000 homes in Ireland are now equipped with solar PV panels. This achievement marks a major step forward in our journey towards a sustainable future and underscores the growing commitment of Irish homeowners to renewable energy.
Why Every Irish Homeowner Should Consider Solar PV
With Ireland having over 1 million homes suitable for solar PV installation, now is the perfect time to consider making the switch. Solar PV panels convert sunlight into electricity, providing a sustainable, cost-effective way to power your home. Not only do they help reduce your energy bills, but they also contribute to a cleaner environment by lowering carbon emissions.
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) Homeowner’s Guide to Solar PV provides comprehensive information on the benefits of solar energy, from reducing energy costs to contributing to environmental sustainability. The guide also outlines the SEAI grants available to homeowners, making solar PV more affordable than ever.
What is Solar PV and How Does it Work?
Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight directly into electricity using solar panels. These panels are made up of many solar cells that generate electrical power when exposed to sunlight. The electricity produced can be used to power your home, reducing your reliance on the grid and lowering your energy bills.
The SEAI Homeowner’s Guide to Solar PV offers a detailed explanation of how solar PV systems work, including the components involved and the science behind solar energy conversion. It also covers the different types of systems available and how to choose the best one for your home.

Case Study: SolarSmart - Transforming Homes with Solar Energy
Our member SolarSmart Energy Ltd recently helped Sean Higgins in Greystones transform his home with a 7.8kWp solar PV installation. Sean's motivations were both environmental and economical. Working from home, he faced high energy bills and wanted to generate clean electricity and contribute to the grid. Despite the challenges of having no south-facing roof and wanting to avoid drilling through new wooden floors, SolarSmart implemented a double-array system with panels facing east and west, and installed an outdoor inverter and battery. This setup has led to significant monthly savings of €200 to €240 on Sean's energy bills, and he is now a net exporter of electricity to the grid. Sean appreciates SolarSmart's personal touch and competitive pricing.
