Roof-top & Solar Panel Thermographic Inspections

Carrying out thermographic inspections at height doesn't necessarily mean you need a UAV/drone (to a certain degree and depending on the application of course). By thinking outside the box and attaching your smartphone thermal imaging camera to an extension pole, you can remotely connect the device through a free application such as Team Viewer and take full control from the ground.
Why would you do this?
- Safely gaining a higher vantage point, and without the added expenses and regulatory restrictions of operating a UAV/drone, you can identify areas in flat-top building roofs where the waterproof membrane has been compromised allowing moisture to enter the substrate. This is a major problem in older buildings especially and a costly one at that.
- Inspect residential/commercial roof-top solar panels safely and efficiently from the ground. One minor hurdle here is that the Therm-App requires manual focus so you would need to pre-determine the viewing distance (top of pole to solar panels) and manually focus the device on the ground to a reference point at the same distance. Problem solved.
- Identifying leaks in underground plumbing, in-ground swimming pools, etc.
- Carrying out thermographic inspections in areas that are potentially unsafe to access.
- Conduct night-time wildlife surveys and other animal research without the use of trapping or more invasive methods.
- Any other application where a closer distance is required to get a more accurate temperature measurement.
