Ron’s Rant #29 – We need more good news!

Ron’s Rant #29 – We need more good news!

I am pleased with the response to last week’s article about latest developments in technology around grade crossings. This week I have been emailing back and forth with the son of a railway engineer that I once knew when I was a young man. He is a Canadian living and working in Seattle, and he referred me to a company in Winnipeg that has been bringing innovative technologies to road crossing monitoring systems. The company is called Trainfo and I am going to reach out to them for more information on what they are doing as soon as this Easter weekend is over.

I should leave off this week’s rant with that positive thought but I just learned that there are eight US states that have not banned social gatherings over this Easter Weekend. The Governors of those states are not just condemning their own citizens who choose to gather to suffer more deaths, they may also be killing many more people that continue to contract this disease from those still gathering and passing this virus on to others. Unless absolutely everyone practices social distancing at all times, then every person you come in contact with is a potential weapon loaded with this highly communicable virus.

In my almost seven decades of living, there has been nothing close to rivaling the impact of this global pandemic.  It knows no politics, it knows no boundaries, and we are still learning more about why it varies in the way it manifests differently from one patient to another. There can be no economic recovery until this virus has run its course and we have collectively defeated it. Get with the program people. Stay home and stay safe. Safety for Life!
