Words of wisdom:

Do not limit yourself, and don’t sell yourself short. When I started my leadership journey, I was told I would not last. 14 years later, I am still leading people. “Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that that impact lasts in your absence.”—Sheryl Sandberg.

Women are seen as “weak” because we have so many emotions. Be intentional when you are in leadership. Lead with pride and conviction.

The actual value of a leader is how the team carries on when you are not around. Do not lead with fear; investing in people has long-term results.

What inspires me:

People inspire me. Their complex minds, the way they speak and carry themselves, and their will to do good and make a change inspire me.

Who inspires me:

My mom- a nurse for 21 years, had to retire because of health concerns. The impact she made on her patients and colleagues is immeasurable.

The rock star—P!nk (Alicia Moore )—is not afraid to be honest and vulnerable in what she says and does. She is involved in many charities and Human rights campaigns. She raises her daughter to be unapologetically herself and pursue her dreams and beliefs.

How do you empower yourself?

I take care of myself. You cannot pour from an empty cup. If I need a coffee on the stoep in silence, then that’s what I need, and that’s what I am going to get. Making myself a priority has taken some time, but now I am unapologetically focusing on it. Pick up that book, take that course! There are no limitations on growth.
