Rome Endorses a New City Tram Line

Rome New City Tram Line project was announced by the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi. The length of the tram line will be about 1.5 kilometers long. It will intersect with Tram Line 5 in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele near Termini Station and then the new line will head to west of Rome to Largo Corrado Ricci near the Colosseum.
The construction works planned to start by May 2019. The tram line should be ready for commercial operation in 2020. The cost of the project is EUR 20 million, and the municipality of Rome has already secured EUR 5 million while the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will allocate the remaining EUR 15 million.
The distance between the trams is about 8 minutes and the municipality evaluates that the new tram line service will be provide to 30,000 passengers daily. The new tram line will serve four stations. A second phase involves extending the tram line to Piazza Venezia. The Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi says "We have also decided to launch a design contest to refurbish the entire area that will be affected by the tram line,”
