Vins de Prestige is delighted to be able to offer a bottle of RC 1945!
A bottle of this great Burgundy wine was sold for $558,000 at auction in New York.
This bottle, with its soiled label, is one of 608 produced in 1945, just before the Romanée-Conti estate ripped out the vines and replanted them.
The 1945 Romanée Conti came from vines that were three hundred years old. It's the tricentenaire that's important, rather than the franc de pied.
But in 1988, Cuisine et Vins de France - Numbers 445 to 454 - Page 91 gave the following prices:
Romanée Conti 1945 = 35,000 Francs
Romanée Conti 1937 = 8,800 Francs
This bottle comes from a collector's cellar, to be auctioned in 2023.
Tasting note:
The wine was very deep, dark and richly coloured with a unique exotic nose of oriental spice, black truffles, and a plenty of substance underneath - very vigorous! On the palate a full, unbelievable concentrated, sturdy wine. Chewy, intense and not a trace of age - this wine will last forever! Magnificent but in a good old-fashioned way! The best Burgundy we have ever tasted. (Pekka Nuikki-Editor of the Fine Wine Mafazines and Champagne Magazines)
