It feels like my Bible has become a business book. I was reading Matthew 26 and what resonated with me was Roles! We all have roles to play. Most of us call it our purpose, i.e., what we are called to do. Believe it or not, we are all playing a part, or even multiple parts, at different times in our lives.
Question: What part or role are you playing now? I have held diverse roles in my life, and each one has taught me something new about myself as I take on more roles: Child, Sister, HR Employee, Wife, Mother, Teacher, leader, etc.
So, what did I learn about roles today?
- The Disciples: They were around Jesus until He left, but they never understood what he was saying half of the time. They were learning in preparation for when they would play their parts. The rest, they say, is history.
- The priests and elders were plotting to kill Jesus. They had their day jobs, but their side hustle was plotting to kill Jesus. Priests by day, killers by night. Jesus probably wasn’t the only person they killed like that. They were playing a part in fulfilling Scripture.
- Enter Simon, whom Jesus had healed earlier and who was now providing the place for the woman to anoint Jesus ahead of his burial, which triggered Judas Iscariot to find an alternative source of income in betrayal because things are hard and we have to do what we will do to survive. Be intentional about your role. Decisions also determine the roles we play at the same time.
- The most important role is that of the man whose house was used for the Last Supper. His name was not called, but he played a vital role in providing the place that birthed the Holy Communion. I asked myself if he knew what Jesus meant by “my time has come.”. Your name does not have to be listed or acknowledged for what you have done. What is important is that you played your part when the time came. Sometimes it involves supporting the leaders who are called to shine bright because some lights shine brighter than others. Do you think Henry Ford or Thomas Edison worked by themselves? I don’t think so. Do we know the names of their supporters or support system? Maybe, or maybe not!
Just play your part. Understanding this will help you be a better leader, especially if you were a superstar individual contributor, and now it seems like you have to take a back seat so that your team members can also shine. Know what season you are in and the role expected of you, and play it. It’s tough, but guess what? YOU CAN DO IT

1 年We often dream of grand gestures, the hero's moment where our efforts are celebrated. But sometimes, the most impactful roles are played quietly, behind the scenes. These are the supporting players, the individuals who contribute tirelessly without being applauded.
