Roles of Feminism in Promoting Mental Health Awareness

Roles of Feminism in Promoting Mental Health Awareness

When you are collectively fed biases from day 1, like you are not strong enough, you could be easily exploited and there's a decorum that you have to follow while dealing with the society, unknowingly it creates a trap around an individual. The trap of a belief system that decodes all these aspects to make you believe that you are inadequate. As a result, if someone is getting depressed and turning anxious, it shouldn’t come off as a surprise.?

At this moment, women are subjected to the same with their progress linked to sexual favors or they are even going through a lot of mental harassment. As a result, one out of three women at the workplace are severely depressed. However, such fears and anxieties can be treated effectively through a feminist approach.?

What is a Feminist Approach To Tackling the Problem of Mental Health?

A feminist approach to solving the mental blocks from the standpoint of women’s perspective is when they are increasingly heard and they are given enough opportunities in a conducive atmosphere to handle oppressive, dangerous and damaging situations that might lead to unforeseen circumstances and cause catastrophic outbursts in women which they fail hard to share or express. Hence, they unknowingly are forced into depression and anxiety, without the person having any idea of the same. Those rigorous mood swings, erratic behaviors and sudden spike in emotional outbursts could be highly destructive for a woman's growth.

How Does Feminism Help in Raising an Awareness Regarding Mental Health?

To understand this, you have to first take an example from your own life. You might have many friends in your life, but are you comfortable talking deeply with everyone? Apparently not! Rather, you have your own cohorts who understand and never judge you for all that you do. That’s why a therapist is a better person when you have to look for a mental disease cure. Now, it is highly unlikely that an organization can earmark a separate therapist section at their offices. It creates a negative reputation for that company. On the contrary, they can look forward to feminism because feminism helps in;?

Building a Safe Environment?

Like I said, when you have none to judge you for anything that you are going through or you do, in that case, it can help you become more expressive than ever before. A feminist environment rightfully guarantees that. At your organization, you can promote feminist team building exercises that not only caters to organizational growth but also looks into the mental health status of the female workers. Since these workers have the same problems interlinked in one way or the other, biologically, psychologically and emotionally, they can better understand each other and provide a better response to the same.?

Collaboration and Mutuality

You can only be expressive when the other person treats you as equals. That sense of understanding invokes trust and you can look forward to meaning sharing of ideas, thoughts and situations to help undertake better decision making. It is very much essential for the growth of the organization.?

Peer Support?

Feminism helps in building a peer-support atmosphere because we are grouping the same individuals with different problems but the understanding that is common to all. Hence, most likely, women will be much more convinced and safe sharing what they are going through. In this way, not only can they overcome the problem but also it can effectively be used as an exercise to foster better interpersonal relationships and growth.

Conclusion?

Women at this point of time need equal participation. Though we have spoken at length about feminism and equal rights, on the other hand, we cannot ignore the fact that such discussions and debates are good? on paper only. As a result, we are seeing catastrophic outcomes and true feminism will only work out when we emotionally connect and work towards providing solutions for the same.?

Hello Stanley, I'm building a website and a mobile app called 'empathy ke'. It's a place for those going through stress, depression, suicidal thoughts among others to come together, share ideas of hope, get emotional support, physical support and guidance from professionals. It's a free platform. The front end has been completed but the backend is underway. Feel free to comment on any ideas, collaboration on the project (github),professional support for the community and any relevant support
