Chartered Accountants should function as custodians of public and societal interests, rather than being swept away by their hidden ulterior and materialistic motives. Many youths nowadays enter this highly revered attestation profession with the aim of pursuing a rewarding career in materialistic terms.

However, young people have to realize that this once-revered profession is not meant for earning money by concealing and covering up a company's unethical conduct. On the contrary, this attestation profession is about acting as the public eye and exposing companies engaged in unethical reporting and practices that deplete public resources.

Act like a responsible citizen, and if you have chosen a profession, adhere to its ethical conduct. Do not get swayed by materialistic motives.

Some may argue that these ethical practices belong to the past and that nowadays no one cares for ethics. But always remember that ethics can be bypassed in the short run, yet in the long run, truth will reveal itself. If ethics are being bypassed, one also has to face the consequences of such unethical conduct.
