The Role of Video on LinkedIn: Native Video is Finally Here!!!!

LinkedIn has just started rolling out a native video feature for its timeline. What does that mean? You can create video on the fly from your mobile app (and soon desktop) and share it as an update. Only 500 people have it right now, but it should be on a mobile device near you soon!

You know you'll have it if you see a little video icon in your update field. When you click on the video icon (kinda like this)?? it takes you to your phone's camera where you can shoot the video.

Why should you care about video and LinkedIn?

?? 74% of all internet traffic in 2017 will be video.

?? 59% of Sr. Executives would rather watch a video than read text.

Why is video so vital to a business person’s success?

The answer lies in the science behind video.

?? The human VOICE conveys emotion.

?? The brain is hard-wired to trust the human FACE.

?? MOVEMENT captures & keeps people’s attention.

But what does that REALLY mean? You can now use native video on LinkedIn: ·     

?? To Increase your credibility

?? To increase your KLT factor (know, like and trust)

?? To inspire engagement

?? To showcase your expertise

?? To interview happy customers

?? To showcase a product or service

?? To showcase a new innovation

?? To tell people why they should hire you

?? To introduce your audience to a client or employee

?? To interview experts

?? To broadcast an event

And the list goes on.

Keep your videos under 3 minutes – people will probably only watch for about 30 seconds.

Please remember this is LinkedIn, not Snapchat! Make sure your videos are business appropriate. You might even want to script them out for awhile, or at least have some talking points in mind when you start.

LinkedIn will also tell you how many people watched at least 3 seconds of your video and what their titles are and where they live. Apparently, I am big in Milan :)

You can read more on LinkedIn’s new video feature here in this INC article from my friend John White. John highlights the distinction that LinkedIn is a great platform to reach B2B with video and that LinkedIn is better suited to reach a B2B audience than Facebook, Snapchat, or Instagram are. He also points out that video creators will finally have access to rich data like the number of views, shares, likes, and comments. They will also have access to data about the viewers of their videos, such as where they work, their job title, and the top markets where the video was viewed.

I still don't have it available. My application is updated but there is no video option ....and I'm trying to use this option on my iPhone. .....the only choice is a photo to share. When do you think this will be available for everyone?
