This remarkable statistic places Saudi Arabia among the top five countries globally in terms of football enthusiasm, equal to the United Kingdom. The young generation, which forms 63% of the population under the age of 30, is a driving force behind this passion. The participation of women in sports has also seen unprecedented growth, with over 70,000 girls playing football in school leagues and a 149% increase in women’s participation in sports since 2015.

Saudi Arabia’s largest airports—Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam—are at the forefront of this transformation. In 2023, these airports collectively handled 86 million passengers, with King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh undergoing significant expansions. By 2035, Jeddah’s capacity will increase to 100 million passengers annually, and Riyadh’s capacity will reach 40 million by 2038. The $30 billion King Salman International Airport, set to open in 2030, will have an initial capacity of 120 million passengers, expanding to 185 million by 2050.

The Kingdom is investing in cloud-based and biometric systems to streamline operations and provide personalized services. These innovations aim to create future-ready airports that can efficiently handle increased passenger traffic, aligning with the goals of Vision 2030.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, Saudi Arabia is exploring the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) to reduce carbon emissions. The national carrier, SAUDIA, has been investing in fuel-efficient aircraft, such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliners, and is exploring the use of electric vertical take-off and landing jets (eVTOL) in collaboration with companies like Lilium. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to minimize aviation's environmental impact.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia is embracing the concept of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) to revolutionize urban transportation. The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has launched initiatives to enable advanced air transport, including the development of air taxis and other innovative air mobility solutions.
