The role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the development and implementation of AI solutions to strengthen health systems

Public-private partnerships (PPPs) can play a crucial role in the development and implementation of AI solutions to strengthen health systems. Here are some aspects why these partnerships can be beneficial:

?

1)????? PPPs allow for pooling of resources and funding to accelerate innovation

  • public health expertise and private sector innovation are a nice match as they accelerate the development and deployment of AI technologies.
  • Governments can provide funding and incentives, while private companies can invest in cutting-edge research and development.
  • This can help in creating more effective AI tools for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers.
  • Technology and Innovation: Private companies are often at the forefront of AI technology. Collaborating with them can help integrate the latest advancements into public health strategies, ensuring the most up-to-date solutions are used.

?

2)????? Gaining scale - both in terms of dataset size and scalability of solutions

  • Public health systems often have large amounts of patient data, which are crucial for training AI algorithms. Partnerships can facilitate secure and ethical access to these datasets, ensuring AI solutions are robust and accurate.
  • Public health systems usually have the infrastructure to scale solutions broadly. Partnerships can ensure that AI tools developed by private companies are implemented at scale, reaching larger populations.

?

3)????? Making it real - Regulatory support & adoption

  • Governments can streamline regulatory processes to bring AI solutions to market more quickly, while private companies can ensure compliance with health standards and regulations.
  • We all know that healthcare is a business of trust. In healthcare it is essential that AI systems are developed with ethical considerations at their core, prioritizing patient well-being and ensuring robust data privacy and security measures.

?

It is my firm belief that Government involvement can truly help build public trust in AI solutions, addressing concerns about privacy and ethics, and promoting wider acceptance and adoption.

Emerging trends in PPPs for AI in Healthcare

?

Precision Care: Doing the right thing, at the right time for each and every patient.

We need to focus on AI-driven personalized treatment plans based on genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. 97 % of all data generated in healthcare is not used, goes directly to the archive. PPPs will be pivotal in integrating diverse datasets and developing tailored interventions.

?

Telehealth Expansion

There is the need for Enhanced AI tools for remote diagnostics and monitoring. This will require collaboration between public health bodies and tech companies to ensure accessibility and integration with existing health systems.?

For example, in ultrasound via guidance software, we enable non-expert healthcare workers to receive support by the AI application to place the ULS in the right places to obtain a good image. This is relevant for maternal and infant care, abdominal exams, breast cancer…

One of the key challenges is training of healthcare workers. Mobile hand held ULS could be in every community health workers’ pocket to make on the spot checks.

These small devices empowered with AI could help to enable much broader access to diagnosis. It could dramatically help to advance on some of the UN Sustainable development goals such as improving maternal and infant care.

?

Health moves at the speed of trust: In healthcare it is essential that AI systems are developed with ethical considerations at their core, prioritizing patient well-being and ensuring robust data privacy and security measures.

There will be a growing emphasis on ethical AI use and secure data handling. Public and private sectors will need to collaborate to establish and enforce standards and regulations.

I predict that there will be more AI solutions tailored for global health challenges, with PPPs addressing issues in low- and middle-income countries by combining public health expertise with private innovation.

We at GE医疗 are heavily investing in R&D for AI technologies, focusing on creating advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tools. We are leveraging partnerships with academic institutions, biotech firms, and health systems to stay at the cutting edge.

We need to develop AI tools that are easily integrated into clinical workflows:

The best AI is the one that is not visible, that is seamlessly integrated into the respective workflows doing the magic in the background. We have done everything right if the clinician doesn’t even know that AI is at work.

AI is the HCP‘s invisible friend helping them run faster.

We at GE医疗 aim to lead the transformation of healthcare through innovative AI solutions and strategic public-private partnerships thereby helping to create a world where healthcare has no limits.
