The role of the JMO Victoria Health Service Representatives

The role of the JMO Victoria Health Service Representatives

In recent years, PMCV has aimed to strengthen collaborative networks with Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) across Victoria and medical education representatives within health services. The benefits of improving this communication have been significant as it has created a formalised structure for raising concerns and making recommendations which increases the involvement of JMOs in their health services. However, one further gap remained, a central conduit between the JMO Victoria Committee, the PMCV and JMOs at health services.

As a result, JMO Victoria Health Service Representatives (HSRs) have recently been appointed at all health services that will act as the connection between prevocational doctors, PMCV, health services and JMO Victoria.

A large component of this role involves providing valuable insights into how National Framework implementation is progressing on a local level within health services, which will ultimately strengthen the prevocational training experience for current and future cohorts.

On Wednesday 20th March, PMCV facilitated an induction session for all JMO HSRs. This event was well-received by the attendees, and demonstrated their eagerness to support the roll-out of the National Framework and represent their health service peers.

During the session, PMCV covered the key components of the National Framework, why the JMO HSR role has been established and what the role entails. The responsibilities of the JMO HSR were also covered which include:

  • Attending and actively participating in the HMO society at their health service and at JMO Victoria meetings to enable a two-way dialogue between the HSRs and the JMO Victoria Committee.
  • Actively engaging with the Clinical Education Lead at their health service so any questions or concerns regarding the National Framework that have been raised by their fellow prevocational doctors can be discussed and escalated (if necessary).
  • Supporting their health service's Clinical Education Lead, JMO Victoria and PMCV in disseminating and collating information related to the National Framework and in other areas where required.

Engagement strategy

PMCV are developing guidelines and resources for the JMO Victoria HSRs to facilitate their focus for each quarter and how they will report back on their findings. PMCV are looking forward to the insights that will emerge from this ongoing collaboration and how they will contribute to the improvement of prevocational medical training.

PMCV and the JMO Victoria Committee will be in regular contact with JMO HSRs to address their concerns and ensure they are able to fulfil their role.

If you are a prevocational doctor at a health service, we invite you to connect with your health service's HSR if you have any questions or concerns about the National Framework, or head to: www.pmcv.com.au/nfpmt/prevoc-doctors/ for more information.
