The role of the industrial designer in product engineering

DESIGN ENGINEERING & PRODUCTION SUPPORT

During the engineering phase it is important to have a deep collaboration between the Design team and the engineering team in order to meet the main technical constraints and guide cost management.

At this stage we develop the 3d model of the product according to the industrial process at the disposal of the client and its suppliers:

?The main activities of the 3d modelling are

• Material definition and production compliance
• Wall thickness, draft angles, ribs and structure
• Perfect fit between internal components (provided or standard components will be used) and outer shell
• Connections, assembly and packaging constraints
• Definition of 3d file for final prototype

DELIVERABLES

• 3d (SolidWorks compliance) developed and pdf presentation including CMF (color, material and finishing)

The Design team supports the engineering and marketing team during the production of the first series.
