The Role of HR in Strategic Formulation

We are just done with the first Quarter of 2015 and different companies are in the processes of launching or planning to develop strategic plans to guide decisions about the future of their organizations.

I was just wondering, do companies know the HR's emerging role in the formulation and implementation of strategy? Before embarking on the journey of developing that “XXX Five Year Strategic plan 2015-2019". There is a bigger need to set your HR house in order, to understand the role of Human Resource and how you can connect employees to the vision, mission, values, needs, and strategic plans of the company.

Based on the strategic plan, your organization can develop a strategic HR plan that will allow you to make HR management decisions to support the future direction of the organization.

In all companies, HR is the companies Voice, Roots, Stem, Branches and Leaves. To state it plainly: achieving organizational excellence must be the work of its HR. HR has never been more necessary.

Strategic Planning is defined as the process by which a business company, an organization or government department develops a blue print for action and change within the organization, business or department.

This action change is driven by the vision! Where the organization wants’ to go in the future and they make decision allocating resources to pursue this strategy. Meaning the strategy drives the company to achieving a milestone of excellence.

The efforts to achieve such excellence is determined—through a focus on learning, quality, teamwork, and re-engineering—which are driven by the way organizations get things done and how they treat their people. Those are fundamental HR issues.

“A survey conducted on Fortune 1000 companies globally concluded that HR risks are part of the key risks that businesses are exposed to”.

The respond to this call, before embarking on that "XXX Five year Strategic Plan 2015-2019" find a way to find proper and deep understanding of HR as a key strategic planning tool to evaluate the effectiveness of the human resource function, minimize potential risks, develop key strengths and highlight areas of weakness and opportunities for the development of successful plans, policies and practices that will impact the bottom line of your organizations

Companies cannot thrive unless their employees are engaged fully. Engaged employees—that is, employees who believe they are valued—share ideas, work harder than the necessary minimum, and relate better to customers, HR professionals must be held accountable for ensuring that employees are engaged—that they feel committed to the organization and contribute fully.

Organization needs to invest more in HR as if it was its business.
