Fluid Thioglycollate Medium is prescribed and authorized by various pharmacopeia for sterility testing of antibiotics. This media is used for direct inoculation of penicillin and cephalosporin for its sterility testing. It is a multipurpose, enriched, and differential medium.
Sodium Thioglycollate and L-cysteine are prime components of FTM. It acts as a reducing agent that maintains anaerobic conditions. Along with this, Casein, Yeasts extract, Glucose, and NaCl are other ingredients that are required to grow microorganisms.
Application
