Beneath the surface of society's most recent technological advancements is a dark truth that has suffered very little light of consciousness, that is, the impact data and its increasing utility and value play in the distribution of income, wealth, and market power. Large corporations and tech giants wield substantial control over vast troves of data, while individuals, small businesses, and consumers often lack ownership rights over the data they generate. This glaring power asymmetry is nothing but bound to perpetuate and expand economic disparities and restrict opportunities for social and economic advancement. Why?

The root of this issue lies in the structure of data ownership and the mechanisms through which it is controlled. As data becomes an increasingly valuable asset in the digital economy, those who control it wield immense influence over markets, consumer behavior, and even political landscapes. This lack of agency over one's own data not only violates privacy rights but also perpetuates economic inequality by concentrating wealth and power in the hands of a select few.
