ROI of Visibility

ROI of Visibility

Visibility is paradoxical. You know when you don’t have it. Who hasn’t said “I wish we had known that”?? Read any industry study - everybody wants visibility and ranks it as strategically important because it’s hard to proactively manage and get ahead of problems with averages and historical data.

Yet, we struggle to quantify it and assign ROI.

Think of walking down the street. Do you walk with your eyes closed, a mental map of where you’re going, and only open them for periodic glances to ensure you’re on track? Or, are your eyes wide open, constantly aware of your surroundings, accounting for changes to the dynamic environment through which you’re travelling?

Now think of a warehouse. ?We rely on our Systems of Record (like our mental map while walking) that we know is mostly accurate. That System of Record is typically updated with occasional cycle counts (ie. glances when you’re walking) that give a glimpse of one small area of the operation, but otherwise rely on historical, previously obtained data.?

The promise of reduced errors is appealing, yet there’s a reluctance to admit that errors exist despite being dynamic environments. To admit errors seems to be admitting fault, that things could be better, or that many errors could have been avoided with increased visibility. Ironically, despite wanting visibility, we hesitate to admit the challenges that result from a lack of it.

We thought we knew.? We optimized our process. We upgraded our systems.

Continuing on the warehouse thread, data tends to show a significant delta between perceived accuracy and actual accuracy within a warehouse. How do we know this? Because Dexory provides a digital twin of an entire facility that is continuously updated every day with for a true picture of inventory within the facility; where it is, how much of it is there, when it moves and where it goes.? Close to real-time visibility that enables you to prioritize actions that optimize operations and eliminate errors before they become problems.

How many errors will an operation have? That’s the rub – nobody really knows until you start looking. Start seeking visibility. Capture data, analyse it and prioritize actions accordingly. Eliminate Visibility Gaps and witness your operation run more effectively and cost efficiently.?

Walk with your eyes open.?

The analogy of walking down the street with your eyes wide open versus closed perfectly illustrates the difference between passive and proactive management!
