Answer these 8 simple questions and discover the value in investing in your leaders.
Leadership coaching has become a hot topic these days. Recent studies indicate that stronger leadership development is needed to offset the risk of quiet quitting and the impact of continued retention challenges that many organizations face today.
While leadership coaching can clearly offer greater benefits than any leadership training course,? many HR leaders are finding it difficult to justify the expense because they are unclear on how best to measure the return on investment.
As a top-ranked leadership coach (i.e., industry watch group Thinkers360 has me ranked as its #1 Leadership Coaching Thought Leader on its platform), the question of ROI comes up quite often when I’m discussing my multi-pronged approach for bringing a coaching program to prospective corporate clients,
While there's no simple formula, here are some questions that I ask soon-to-be clients to consider when determining whether they can justify the cost of coaching:
1. What's Strategic Alignment Worth? Getting your leadership team is absolutely critical to achieving the organization’s future pursuits. After all, you won't realize the vision if your leaders can't support it. Coaching can enable alignment.
2. What's Improved Teamwork Worth? Getting your leaders to work as one is invaluable to the success of any enterprise. Your leadership team must be set-up to do that. If it isn't, your performance will undoubtedly suffer. Coaching improves teamwork.
3. What's a High Trust Work-Setting Worth? All good things are based on trust. If your leaders trust one another, your business is well positioned to overcome any obstacle that it confronts. Coaching helps leaders build trust.

4. What's Better Communication Worth? Communication is the centerpiece of every business. It is leadership communication that keeps your people informed so that they can perform at their best. Proper coaching creates solid communicators.
5. What's Enhanced Customer Intimacy Worth? It's tough to stay in business without satisfied customers! Your leaders ensure that the needs and wants of your customers are understood and acted upon by your people. Leadership coaching places an emphasis on customer needs.
6. What's Exceptional Workforce Resiliency Worth? Running a successful business is a rough and tumble undertaking. Your leaders determine how your people withstand and overcome adversity. Good coaching teaches your the leaders the techniques needed to become resilient.
7. What's Becoming a Talent Magnet Worth? It all begins with leadership. You want exceptional people? Great cultures attract great talent. Great leaders build great cultures. Great coaching creates great leaders.
8. What's Greater Innovation Worth? Your products and services must be amazing, if you intend to continue to grow your business. By developing leaders with an appetite to continuously innovate, you improve your ability to be amazing. Leadership coaching encourages leaders to think out-of-the-box, which leads to innovative solutions.
To close, it should be obvious that investing in your leaders, by providing them with the individualized coaching that they need to excel, is far less expensive than the costs associated with lackluster business performance and mediocre financial results that comes from a leadership deficit within your organization.

1 年Too true. For senior leaders, the cost of the coaching is genuinely trivial compared with the returns, IF the coaching derives short and medium-term (ideally also long-term) benefit in engagement, capability and performance in role. And those factors correlate with the engagement shown by the leader with the coaching process, and with the amount of work they put into the coaching partnership. Leadership coaching doesn't work when done to, it works when done with. Thank you James for another insightful article.
