Many of us have been directly and indirectly involved in cancer research for many, many years, especially here in San Diego. At the American Cancer Society's fundraiser - the Cancer Soiree - we had thrill of watching an oncologist celebrate success by dancing on stage with her patient, who had undergone a life threatening surgical procedure the previous year.

Irene Hutchins, MD, Scripps Clinic oncologist, and cancer survivor Steve Valentine made a pact to dance together once Valentine recovered from an aggressive form of lymphoma. Hutchins and Valentine are former national champion ballroom dancers.

In life, it rarely comes together so well...
