Rohi Support Program - May 2024 Newsletter

Dear Community Members,

We are pleased to share the highlights and accomplishments of the Rohi Support Program for May 2024. This month has been a period of significant progress and impactful activities, aimed at strengthening our communities and enhancing our preparedness for future challenges. Here are some of the key updates:

Pandemic Preparedness Plan

In May, we intensified our efforts on the Pandemic Preparedness Plan in the Bahawalpur Division. Our focus has been on capacity building and community awareness, particularly in rural areas. We have initiated several activities, including:

  • Capacity Building Workshops: We conducted a series of workshops aimed at training local health workers and volunteers. These workshops covered essential topics such as hygiene practices, emergency response protocols, and the distribution of health kits.
  • Community Outreach: Our social organizers engaged with over 200 households in the five targeted tehsils of District Bahawalpur. Through door-to-door visits and small group sessions, we provided vital information on preventing the spread of infectious diseases and the importance of vaccination.

Veterinary and Health Official Visits

To further support our pandemic preparedness efforts, we facilitated visits from veterinary and health officials to the rural areas. These visits included:

  • Health Camps: Setting up temporary health camps where community members received free medical check-ups, vaccinations, and consultations. These camps served over 1,000 individuals, addressing various health concerns and providing preventive care.
  • Livestock Health Check-ups: Veterinary officials conducted health check-ups for livestock, ensuring the well-being of animals which are crucial to the livelihoods of many rural families. This initiative helped in preventing zoonotic diseases and improving livestock productivity.

Agriculture Value Chain Financing (AVCF) Course

Our AVCF Course, designed to empower farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs, is set to commence online. Here’s a quick overview:

  • Duration: 4 weeks
  • Weekly Highlights:Week 1: Introduction to AVCFWeek 2: Identifying and Mapping Agricultural Value ChainsWeek 3: Developing and Implementing AVCF ProductsWeek 4: Scaling and Sustaining AVCF

Registered participants will benefit from online guidance, course materials, and a comprehensive final assessment, including a multiple-choice questionnaire and an essay.

Collaboration with Local Schools

In collaboration with local schools, we have initiated an awareness campaign to educate students about health and hygiene practices. This initiative includes:

  • Interactive Sessions: Conducted by our team of experts, these sessions focused on handwashing techniques, the importance of clean drinking water, and nutritional awareness.
  • Distribution of Hygiene Kits: We distributed hygiene kits to over 500 students, which included soap, hand sanitizers, and informational brochures.

Future Plans

As we move forward, we are committed to expanding our reach and impact. In the coming months, we plan to:

  • Extend our pandemic preparedness activities to additional tehsils in the Bahawalpur Division.
  • Launch new community-based projects focused on sustainable agriculture and women empowerment.
  • Continue our educational campaigns and workshops to build a resilient and informed community.

We thank all our partners, volunteers, and community members for their unwavering support and dedication. Together, we are making significant strides towards a healthier and more prosperous future.

Warm regards,

Zahoor Hussain Khan Chairman, Board of Directors Rohi Support Program
