Rodney Bursiel

Rodney Bursiel illustrates the beauty of the world around us. “I’m constantly exploring new subjects to photograph and each journey is an opportunity for me to discover new wonders,” says the photographer. On a trip to East Africa in 2019, it was wildlife that attracted his attention. In Tanzania and Kenya, he discovered and immortalised the beauty of the wild animals.

INTERVIEW

Why photography ?

Why Not? I just love it. I feel naked if I don’t have my camera with me. Everywhere I look I see a photograph.

Your inspiration ?

My dad was a scuba instructor and underwater photographer which is where I got my inspiration for both the underwater world and photography.

The context of creation of your new series?

I have been moving away from people portraits and falling in love with nature photography. Wether I’m photographing sharks, whales, horses or elephants I want people to see the beauty in nature and the importance of protecting it.

Any anecdote for us ?

I recently referred to my Nikon D800 as my big phone.

The picture you would have loved to shoot ?

Tough question. There are so many amazing photographs out there. I am inspired by different photographers daily. I don’t ever want to recreate someones photograph but when I see I a great one I want to go there and get my take on it.

The latest prizes / awards / prides you got ?

4th Place 2019 Amazing Wildlife Photo Contest 3rd place National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year 2017 1st place Scuba Diving Magazine photography contest 2017 3rd place Siena Int. Photo Awards 2017 1st place Scuba Diving Magazine photography contest 2016 1st place Deep Indonesia Surf Photography 2015 2nd place Deep Indonesia Surf Photography 2015

Your next projects ?

Unfortunately due to covid so many of my trips were cancelled last year. As soon as it’s safe to travel again I have plans to return to Kenya to photograph the few remaining big tusker elephants, Camargue, France for the white horses, Cappadocia, Turkey for the wild mustangs and Guadalupe, Mexico to photograph the great whites.

Your motto ?

F 8 and be there. It’s an expression used by so many photographers because its so true.

Any crush on a YK picture ?

Thats like asking me to pick my favorite song or favorite movie. There are so many incredible photographs on YK but the work of Pedro Jarque Krebs always jumps out at me when I visit the page.
