The Rockstar and the Squid

The Rockstar and the Squid

Hello, friends of Nautilus.

Today's edition is a departure from our usual format, because we want to highlight something new and exciting–for us, and hopefully you too: you can now watch and listen to Nautilus stories!

First up, you'll be hearing from musician KatherineKPPaul, of Black Belt Eagle Scout, who has a deep personal connection to the ocean. Coming from the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community in western Washington, KP’s most recent album The Land, The Water, The Sky is influenced by the coastal culture of her ancestral home. That’s why she chose to read Alex Riley's special story about the search for a giant, mysterious, luminous squid–Taningia danae. We love this story because it shows how little we know about our deep oceans, and how even an animal sporting giant, flashing lights, can remain virtually unknown…until now.?

For the first time, you can listen to a Nautilus story on YouTube or wherever you like to listen to podcasts. And if you’re able, head over to see Black Belt Eagle Scout perform on tour with Sleater-Kinney, through the end of March. Forget calls for Freebird…shout Taningia danae between songs and see what happens.

If you like this format and would like to see more of it, please let us know! Drop a comment with your feedback, or even an interesting pal you’d like to nominate to read a story, and it will help us determine if we should keep making them.?

So go on, WATCH or LISTEN.

Last up, a fun thing from a partner. Our friends at Warby Parker are giving away 10 gift sets of their ISO-certified solar eclipse glasses to lucky Nautilus readers. Head over to Instagram to enter, and don't forget to look up and experience the Great North American Solar Eclipse on April 8th.
