Rockstar Retirement Rebels

Rebels and Rebellions are part of human history from as far back as the records go. The word “Rebel” has a negative connotation to it but there is a level of outside the box, unorthodox, non-mainstream thinking that is at the core of a rebel. I have never been a fan of Rock music myself but was always aware of the Mick Jaggars, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen as megastars in the world of rock and roll.
Retired or just Playing Around
Are any of these Rockstars retired, working or just playing around? Technically they still tour and play for their fans while generating income, but I thinks it’s fair to assume that they are not “working” in the conventional sense to bring home the bacon and put food on the table. On the other hand they are doing something that they have passion for, brings them joy and allows them to be active contributors to society(in their own way). In essence they are not retired to being potato coaches watching daytime TV, but having fun in an area of their passions.
Everyday Retirement Rebels
There are also regular rebels redefining retirement norms and standards. For some this means not sitting at home watching day time television but being even more active by doing Iron men, writing books, consulting, starting business and sky diving up to the ripe age of 103 like Rut Larsson who has the record. When you chart your own retirement course and make it your own outside of mainstream norms, that makes you a Retirement Rebel.

Start Playing around & Dabbling
For the most part people usually tell me they want to retire from the corporate grind. They can clearly articulate what they want to retire from, but have not yet decided what to do. Don’t get me wrong, most jobs can’t compare to the job of a Rockstar so many are not what a person will want or be able to do in senior years. Even sports athletes face this dilemma except they retire much earlier like in their 40’s depending on the sport. When Serena Williams had announced her retirement, I shared some thoughts on her evolution here . Serena started dabbling in the Venture Capital space before she actually retired and this allows her to have confirmed if that was the Second Act for her. What will be your Second Act? Let's have a conversation, I am curious to find out.
