Rockstar releases the GTA VI trailer early.

It seems that even Rockstar couldn't hold out until tomorrow, as now it's been confirmed by Kotaku and other sites that the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI has been released.

Today's trailer was first teased in a November 8 post from Rockstar's president Sam Houser, celebrating the company's 25-year history and the future, including this long-awaited sequel. And now finally, fans and so many will sink their teeth and drool with excitement over the first trailer.

The new trailer features Tom Petty's "Love is a Long Road," which is about 90 seconds long, and confirms all the rumors that we are returning to the sunny beaches of Vice City. We finally meet Lucia, who appears to be in prison. We are asked why she is there, to which she replies, "Bad luck, I guess."

After that brief intro, we get sweeping shots of crowded beaches, aquatic life in the waters, birds in the skies, local nightlife, crime, and so much more. We see an airboat and some swampy Everglades and, of course, strip clubs, graffiti, and more.

Near the end of the trailer, Lucia says that the only way they'll get through this is by sticking together. She then asks her partner in crime, Jason, if she trusts her, to which he says, "trust."

What we know about the leaks surrounding GTA VI

Even before the trailer's release, we knew quite a lot ahead of time, thanks to a large, unprecedented leak of early alpha footage in 2022.

The leaks did confirm reports that the game was going to feature two playable protagonists and be set in Vice City, a place we haven't returned to since 2002's Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and now fans of the series finally have faces and a location to scout in this trailer. Now, thanks to this trailer, eagle-eyed fans will pick this trailer, shot by shot, apart from things many of us may have missed, and I am excited to see what they're going to find.

But it remains to be seen if this game can topple the GTA V Leviathan, released in 2013. Thanks to its multiplayer component, that game became one of the best-selling video games of all time, with over 190 million copies sold as of November 2023. But we're gonna need to wait a year as the release for this game isn't until 2025, but I don't doubt that this game is gonna outperform GTA V by a milestone. Well, until then, we have a lot of digging to go into with this trailer and many more to come.
