Stoke the Fire????Balancing Act

To dive deeper into the art of boat-rocking, consider the story of one of our clients. One CEO decided to schedule a backdoor meeting with an employee without notifying me or the employee’s leader ahead of a mid-year review. This CEO is notorious for giving undeserving pay bumps to poor performers in these meetings.?

Not exactly the warm and inviting approach, right?

I insisted on involving the right leader, leading to a reluctant?"Fine—get the leader back here, and we will discuss it." After airing grievances, we averted a crisis.?

Despite the tension, the CEO knew we cared about the team's best interests. This blend of accountability and concern keeps everyone on board. ??

On Fire ?? Book Recommendation

Dare to Lead by Brené Brown is a must-read for any leader. This book provides invaluable insights on the power of vulnerability and courage in leadership. It's perfect for those looking to master the balance of accountability and genuine concern in their leadership style.

I’m a recovering people-pleaser trying to get better at rocking the boat. And finding one’s own rocking style is super important. It’s gotta be a personalized approach. But with how dangerous the “we’ve always done it this way” mentality is, skill in rocking deserves cultivation and frequent use in the safety professionals’ toolkit.
