Rocket.women: meet our Senior Interim Support Manager, Amanda!

During March, as a homage to International Women’s Day, Rocket.Chat has decided to pass the mic to some of our women employees — or Rocket.women, as we call it! We chose seven women to interview and get to know them better by listening to their stories and experiences and giving them a platform. To finish the month, we are interviewing today our Senior Interim Support Manager, Amanda!

Some facts about her are the following:

  1. She lives in Rio de Janeiro;
  2. She describes herself as a great observer and curious;
  3. Her favorite place to work is at her house since she can not focus at a coffee shop — and her favorite beverage is coffee;
  4. She takes pride in her art knowledge, passed on by her mother;
  5. Her favorite thing about working at RC is our ownership and the responsibility for a certain continuity that will be good for the future, apart from the culture.

On to the questions now!

Q: Tell us a little about your Rocketeer career.

A: Back in August 2021, I joined the Operations team to work with Marcelo, one of the Co-Founders of?Rocket.Chat. This provided me with a unique opportunity to gain a better understanding of the company and contribute to maintaining its construction while stabilizing the Business Systems field since we don't have a dedicated IT department. We had to make sure our CRM and other business machines were working right.

Then, in July 2022, our GM and Alan asked me to switch over to the Support Team because they needed someone to revamp its strategy and processes. We made a lot of progress by implementing tiered support and rebuilding some internal processes. But now, it's time for me to head back to Operations full-time and continue my work with Business Systems and Data.

Q: What is your proudest achievement while working at Rocket.Chat?

A: The Support team was my biggest challenge. When I realized the processes we implemented worked out, I was thrilled. Unlike other non-sales departments, we have performance indicators reports that allow us to track and evaluate our results. These Support metrics guided me, and we made significant progress in a short amount of time.

Q: Did you have to overcome any barriers, being a woman?

A: Not at all. I spoke to Carol — our Senior People & Culture Specialist — at the Avengers meeting: I had no problems or barriers. I worked at a traditional company that had a great culture, and I have never felt that. I had no disbelief issues or got ignored. I do not have the technical background of the Support team, and even so, they respect me.

Q: Which fellow Rocketeer (woman) inspires you the most? Why?

A: One person I work with daily, like, 80% of my day, is Paola. She has an organizational capacity in every area she works in: she is a great listener. We can not even argue, despite having the chance to do so. She always thinks about the company above herself.

Q: What about a woman who inspires you, alive or dead?

A: Coco Chanel, since she faced so many challenges and broke various standards in the fashion world, and also her vision of what is luxurious and how to stand up for it. She says: “Be who you are, not who the world wants you to be.”

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Amanda! On Friday, we will have our final #rocketwomen interview to wrap up the #internationalwomensday special articles, so stay tuned for our final interviewee.
