Company Update

For those of you who aren’t already aware, Rockall Safety’s website recently underwent some cosmetic changes!? Not only does the new site have a much more modern feel, but we have spent time curating and editing to make sure it is responsive and delivers a much easier navigation experience.??

If you haven’t checked it out already, now is your chance! https://www.rockallsafety.co.uk/?

The Rhondda Tunnel

The Rhondda Tunnel is a Victorian-era marvel currently closed off, but with ambitious plans for a future life. Originally built for trains, it's envisioned to become a cycling and walking path.?

The project is spearheaded by the Rhondda Tunnel Society. Their plans include:?

  • Making the tunnel accessible for pedestrians, cyclists, including those with limited mobility through electric vehicles.?

  • Building visitor centres at either end with facilities like bike rentals and parking.?

  • Hosting events like races to generate revenue for upkeep.?

There are still hurdles to clear, like securing funding and permits. But if all goes well, the Rhondda Tunnel could become a key attraction for the area. Some members of the Rockall team had the pleasure of visiting the tunnel and said about what a fantastic opportunity and experience it was. Emma Curthoys (Social Media Coordinator) and Adam Perry (Account Manager), both got kitted up and sent down into the tunnel, where they walked the full 2 miles.??

The importance of Risk Assessments?

Risk assessments are the cornerstone of a safe and successful work environment. They're not just a box to check; they're a proactive approach to preventing accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. When risk assessments are inadequate, or avoided, workers safety, and lives, are put on the line.??

One man, working for Code-A-Weld (Great Yarmouth), felt the sting of an improper risk assessment when he was stuck by an object while manufacturing large steel cable drums for the offshore industry. The incident resulting in the man being hospitalised, where he was induced into a coma and underwent facial reconstruction due to the severity of his injuries.??

The company and its director were held liable and have since been fined after a HSE (Health and Safety Executive) investigation found that failings to complete a substantial and proper risk assessment were the direct cause of the incident.??
