Do you remember that huge 80's rock hit ‘Turn Up The Radio’ by the band Autograph? Me too. It went all the way up to 11. So when I found out that lead guitarist Steve Lynch was using LinkedIn I decided it was time to do another in my occasional series of interviews with ‘Rock Stars Who Use LinkedIn’
You may have seen some of my other interviews with the rock legends Brad Gillis (Nightranger & Ozzy Osbourne) and Mitch Malloy (Great White, Van Halen & as a solo artist) and this interview with Steve picks up where those conversations left off…
Lynch is known as the ‘Two Handed Guitarist’ renowned for his trademark two-handed, 8-finger, guitar shredding technique. This innovative style earned him the accolade of "Guitar Solo of the Year" from Guitar Magazine in 1984 for his work on the aforementioned ‘Turn Up The Radio’.
1. Tell me Steve, what is the main reason why you use LinkedIn?
"To connect with others in the music industry such as producers, promoters, marketing personnel and other musicians"
2. You are in an elite but growing group of rock stars who are using LinkedIn these days. Why do you think musicians are using the platform in conjunction with other social media routes such as Twitter, Facebook etc ?
"To promote their music, stay connected to people in the industry and to develop relations with others to stay connected"
3. The use of video on LinkedIn is growing rapidly. Rock stars such as Eric Levy (keyboard player from Nightranger) has been posting clips of him playing excerpts from songs and has been building a decent audience. Have you any plans to use video to showcase you talents?
"Yes I do. There are many videos I have that show my solos from the original Autograph to my solo album Network 23. I’m also going to use this platform to showcase and promote the new musical venture that I am on with my fiancé Alena Rae called 2:22"
4. What’s are the best things you have seen on LinkedIn that you have simply just had to share?
"Video clips from people I know and some epic photos and news from the classic to the new"
Beyond his use of LinkedIn, I asked Steve if he had any plans coming up to make some new music:
“I am currently working on new material for a new project called 2:22 with my fiancé vocalist Alena Rae, keyboardist Peter Gallinari and drummer David Lee Rickard to record and release beginning in late October. 2:22 is a rock/world music concept that is a departure from what I have previously been known for, which is the 80’s music genre. I left Autograph in early August of this year to pursue this musical venture and I’m sure people will enjoy what we have to offer! We are currently setting up tour dates in the US, Europe and Japan beginning early next year”
