Break Your Boundaries Like A Rock Star

My granddaughter is a Swiftie and makes no apologies for it. I enjoy Taylor Swift’s music too, and have come to appreciate her skills and business acuity. I am equally impressed that she, like many other rock stars, is constantly testing musical boundaries.

Few people seem to remember that she began her career as a traditional country singer-songwriter. Since the release of “The Story of Us” in 2010, however, she has expanded into the pop-music genre and become perhaps the most popular musical artist on the planet. Rock stars constantly test their boundaries and it’s important to learn from that.?

Hitting boundaries shows you where you are and what you may be capable of. We all have limitations, but if you don’t know the extent of those limitations, you are certain to fall short of your potential. Playing it safe leads to poor performance and loss of momentum.?

Certainly there are many critics of people who seek to attempt to break boundaries, but I celebrate folks who are willing to put themselves on the line to challenge themselves, and possibly change their world in the process. Many famous musicians such as Prince, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, and Miles Davis, among others, are honored for their creative attempts to push boundaries throughout their career.

The practice of breaking boundaries has vital business implications. Successful entrepreneurs dare to do things differently. They say “NO!” to people or ideas that do not fit their vision or search for excellence. They refuse to let people tell them how to live their life. They may stumble sometimes, but they get up again and try something else.

Sadly, I see too many entrepreneurs and professionals who seem to care more about what other people may think. If you let that happen, you will never achieve your true potential. Be sensitive to other people, but don’t let them drive your life. Dare to discover what you are capable of. You may just end up achieving something amazing.
