Rock n' Rockets musical

“Rock n’ Rockets” started as a screenplay turned into a stage play when published playwright Angela Randazzo saw the potential in her story as a musical with a rock n’ roll beat. David Watkins came onboard lending his vast musical knowledge and talent to the project. Both artists have enjoyed long careers in the arts. Over two years, the partners worked closely creating the 13 original songs with a variety of flavors - rock n’ roll, romantic ballads, western gitty-up, and even an unexpected waltz.

Too-cool Tony and hot-tempered Irene are two wild teenagers in the 1950’s. Pursued by a rival gang, Tony and Irene jump into Tony’s pride n’ joy -?a ‘57 Chevy. REVY CHEVY starts the show with energy and fireworks to a rock n' roll beat.

The Chevy skids off the icy Brooklyn Bridge and quickly sinks. Frozen inside an iceberg for five centuries, Tony and Irene awaken on Space Station Alpha orbiting Earth.

Andromeda, a cunning teenager, rules Alpha and fights for power against her pimply-faced brother, Percy. Andromeda will not allow anyone to end her reign and sings BLIND AMBITION.

Sylvia, a feisty teenager ruling the opposing space station Zeon orbiting Venus, is also vying for power. Percy kidnaps Sylvia hoping to turn her loathing of the creep into love. Percy and Sylvia sing HOW I HATE YOU.

Adjusting to the 25th century puts a strain on Tony and Irene’s relationship. A forlorn Irene sings LOVING YOU. Waldo, a comical humanoid robot, who changes personalities, helps them out.

Lance Laser, a blonde hunk, has broken into Alpha to steal an important disc naming the new ruler. Andromeda wants to stop him and wants him as her own.

Conflict arises as loyalties and lovers switch partners and the forces of Alpha and Zeon prepare for battle. Percy puts his plan in motion to overthrow Andromeda and take over.

With Lance’s help, Tony, Irene and Sylvia escape to Space Station Zeon in a rocket ship shooting through space singing the theme song ROCK N’ ROCKETS.

Sylvia thinks Lance has betrayed her with Andromeda. She confides in Waldo singing HAPPY ENDING wishing for one in her own life.

Tony is having troubles as Irene is cool and distant. He tells her of his love in the blues song ROCK N’ ROLL BABY.

Tony and Irene are lost without each other expressed in the haunting ballad LOST IN SPACE.

Lance is also lost without Sylvia. He asks her to trust him in the heartbreaking ballad IF YOU BELIEVE IN ME.

Andromeda wants Lance and the disc he stole on which is information that could end her reign. She longs for love singing the volatile song WORLD WITHOUT COLORS.

Irene turns to Waldo for advice. Waldo has problems of his own. He is malfunctioning. In the upbeat CROSSED CIRCUIT he tells her of his wish to be human.

Tony and Irene are unable to express their feelings for each other. They take solace in the memory of a prom on the Earth lost to them in the romantic STAR GAZING.

Percy has dreams of his own picturing himself as a space cowboy in a laser shootout with Andromeda in ROOTIN’ TOOTIN’ COWBOY. The appearance of “little green men” in a chorus line adds to the fun and comedy of the number.

Do Tony and Irene find each other? Does Sylvia give Lance another chance? Does Andromeda, Sylvia or Percy succeed in the battle for power? Can Tony and Irene return home?

Their fate and the future of planet Earth is revealed as the teenagers rock n’ roll through outer space in the explosive finale ROCK N’ ROCKETS.
