For months now, through a Saturday series called Sharpen the Blades (a blog journey exploring character on the ground), I have been reading and sharing on The Realm Between. Over the next few days, I will finish the book using my series ROCK 105.

I have loved this read, and intend to return to it. I recommend the read for yourself. For now, and in Freakin' Leadership, I shared...

This is from The Realm Between by LD Olsen. I have indeed been reading, reflecting and sharing on it in pieces for months now ... and on a weekly basis. It's opening shares...

Tahira Fiore's ancestry makes her a freak. Her beliefs make her a target.

Tahira is a senior at the Educata, School for Young Perceivers, tasked to train novices in Spirio - the ability to merge with souls in higher and higher degrees.
With the aid of supernatural forces, and ancient allies, Tahira must push the novices at a pace never attempted, battling demons and monsters, within and without, to unite a divided realm and save it from pending doom.

This week, and with the conclusion of the College year, I have opted to finish the book today and through July 1.

  • June 27 ... Chapters 52 through 54
  • June 29 ... Chapters 55 through 57
  • June 30 ... Chapters 58 through 60

Today...

Chapters 52 through 54

From Ayne's deep resolve to deal with Lucifine in Chapter 52, to Baldric and Lucifine and the mobilizing of the companions in Chapter 53, to the Devotion of Lythe and Willen ... and the fierce decision of Tahira in response to Draegan in Chapter 54... we see...

COMMITMENT

This is Day 13 of ROCK 105. Thus far, we have gone in on Acceptance, Accountability, Appreciation, Assertiveness, Awe, Beauty, Candor , Caring, Certitude, Charity, Cheerfulness ... and Cleanliness ... as strengths of character in these days and going forward. Imagine the strengths of accepting where you are when you are with taking full account of things past and present and owning it. Imagine the strengths of then appreciating and valuing and growing from there, asserting your best voice in doing so. Imagine the power of Awe and Beauty in experiencing the walking forward. Imagine being true to yourself and others in that walk forward, caring about what matters most and being certain of it. Imagine a simple and clean spirit of giving and cheer in doing so. I humbly suggest a read or re-read of the posts noted above, and imagine. Imagine that kind of walk. Now, imagine Commitment...

Discerning on our decisions, giving 100%, confident, and keeping our agreements. Commitment. Loyal and strong, over the distance, enduring. Commitment. I see it in Ayne and Tahira and so many in these Chapters. Commitment is strength. But the question is truly "Commitment to what?" Commitment demands of us Discernment.

I find myself in this space now and amidst these days of Pandemic and movements and more. To what do I give my Commitment? What is deserving of such deep resolve? Commitment is a strength and a double edged sword. We must discern on that to which we give and practice Commitment. A mentor of mine years ago said...

  • Commitment is doing the thing you said you would do when you felt committed, long after you no longer feel committed.

If this is true, and I believe so deeply... then our Discernment is paramount. In these coming days, I intend to practice such Discernment and Decisiveness... in order to rightly, justly and wisely commit my own Commitment.

This will also imply Detachment.

To fully commit... we need to detach, discern, decide, and devote.

I intend such time and energy and spirit. To let go and grab on. In the meantime, I suggest you ponder Commitment. To what are you committed? To what do you truly need and desire to be so? Time spent on such considerations is wise. And in that same meantime. I wholeheartedly recommend you read for yourself.

Peace, passion and prosperity...

Barry Lewis Green, aka The Unity Guy with Epic Engage

Lead, inspire, educate, and unite. Move forward together, stronger. My work is about bringing campuses, companies and communities together, moving forward stronger. I work with educators, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders to do just that. My work is about character leadership and education and its role in helping individuals and organizations build a better world at school, work, business and community. I deliver on it through speaking, coaching and development in character leadership and education. My expertise is character leadership and education. I advance unity in diversity by moving the needle on leadership and education that is high character and results forging. I speak, teach, coach, facilitate, lead, write, sing, dance, cartoon and create on that. In 1980, Professor Rolf Hattenauer changed my life. A highly respected expert in Human Resource Management, he expected much of us and he believed much in us. He was an educator and leader of high character. He was extraordinary. To this day and beyond, I try my darnedest to honor his spirit with my own work. That is another story. But I hope I did him service here.
