Roche des Bancs - April 2023 Bulletin

As we warmly embrace Spring in the Brionnais, we're delighted to see the "bud-break" in our vineyards. To celebrate this vibrant season, we've crafted a new blog post, Spring Wine Pairings, featuring ingredients in season in France. We hope you use this article as a resource or inspiration for gatherings with your loved ones, allowing our wines to be a part of these special moments and fostering connections.

Domaine Local Updates: We're excited to share three ongoing projects?

Work, work, work…

Our winery is undergoing construction and renovation, with new temperature-controlled tanks arriving next month. Our goal is to have everything ready for the 2023 harvest.

Soil preparation is in progress for spring plantings, covering a significant area of 3 hectares. This project requires considerable manpower and technical resources. Additionally, staking for last year's young plants (2 hectares) continues.

Aging wines

An exciting addition, our unique white cuvée from the 2021 vintage, "Pagus Brionensis" (the ancient Latin name for the Brionnais region), represents all the white grape varieties of the estate, both old and new, traditional and original. Bottling is planned for the beginning of May with a limited run of just over 1000 bottles. You can preorder this cuvée through email: [email protected]

Also scheduled for bottling at the end of April are the stainless steel tank-aged whites, Pinot Gris "Pino Giorgio" and Sauvignon Gris "Avant l'Aube”.

This season we have seen great success with the semi-dry Auxerrois "Les Grandes Plantées" and the traditional method sparkling wine, 100% Auxerrois, "L'Effrontée". The wine’s long duration on the lees allows the finesse of the aromas and bubbles to fully express themselves.

As for the top cuvées, the Chardonnay "Terre Romane" and the Gamay Vieilles Vignes "L'A?née", had their success among great tasters this month.
