Robust Health-Care Sign-ups Illustrate the Durability of Obamacare

Another up-to-date, informational read on the ACA...

After President Trump signed the massive Republican Party tax cut, which includes the repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate to buy health insurance, he boasted that he had finally achieved one of his longstanding, revenge-fueled policy goals. “We have essentially repealed Obamacare and will come up with something that will be much better,” he said on Wednesday.

But Americans’ enthusiasm for the law tells a different story.

As the Trump administration grudgingly admitted the next day, 8.8 million people signed up for Obamacare’s individual marketplaces through the federally run Healthcare.gov website during this year’s open-enrollment period, almost matching last year’s total of 9.2 million. (Another 2.5 million people signed up through 11 state exchanges, a number that will rise in the coming weeks, since the states allow people to sign up for weeks longer than than the federal government.)

Gosh, that's dandy, so there is a relationship between participation and giving it away? So if I offer to pay 90% of your dinner tab, you will eat out more often, amazing!

Everyone needs health care. Buying it is a necessity even without the individual mandate that was repealed. Under Obamacare, my premiums went from $445 per month to $600 per month In 2018, while my copay and deductibles went up 40% before I see any benefit, I end up paying almost $10,000 before care kicks in. Yeah, it's great having Obamacare. The real element of concern is the actual cost of care and what is allowable as a charge to a patient. Outlandish. Pharma should be regulated - exactly how I'm not sure.

When will people understand that this is very expensive insurance for catastrophic illness or surgery. Nothing more. Many families will be bankrupt by the time deductibles are reached. However, it helps insurance companies and providers, especially in states with Medicaid expansion. Another article with an agenda, I'm afraid.
