Robots will take over our jobs – and I can't wait!

In a recent report, the World Economic Forum predicted that robotic automation will result in the net loss of more than 5m jobs across 15 developed nations by 2020. Another study, conducted by the International Labor Organization, states that as many as 137m workers across Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam – approximately 56% of the total workforce of those countries are at risk of displacement by robots, particularly workers in the garment manufacturing industry.

I don't think that it is bad news.

Why are we fighting to keep these kind of jobs?

Probably because, after more then 2 decades around machines, apps, software, smartphones and drones we are still doomed to perform exhausting work.

The process of buying and selling has been simplified . They have saved (for companies and government), an enormous amounts of time and money.

The way we work has changed forever. Today we have easy access to training, Google, Youtube, e-books, databases, market researches, CRM software, apps like Go-to-meeting, basecamp, Trello, Outlook, Smartsheet, Excel, Sage, Photoshop, InDesign, Mailchimp, Hootsuite, etc.

The question is: If things are easier and new technologies are helping, why are we still working so many hours inside an office for less money? Also, why are we worried about robots taking over our jobs?

If my job is something that a robot can perform better than me I want to find another job. The problem is that people are trying to beat software and machines, instead of using it to improve, not only companies results, but ourselves.

During the last few decades, companies have implemented all new technologies to get better and faster results. These new technologies should create more jobs, better workplace environments and less work-hours, but we got more work for the same, or even less money.

Also, so many of us are still absorbed by a work that takes, not only the time of our workday, but also our life. The problems raised during our work routine accompany us home, and sometimes to our dreams, even when so many machines, smartphones, computers and ATMs exist to make life easier to expand our leisure.

Yes, robots and learning software will take over our jobs.

It is already here. And it won't stop.

It will change the way we work and live so much that its hard to try and predict our future. But one thing I know: our workplace will be re-shaped. We will get different roles.

And we will be just fine.

We will never stop working. Companies will only survive if they have a market. To have a market we need people to consume. To consume we need to buy. To buy, people need money, benefits or salaries. To have a salary and money to consume and pay taxes, we need a job. Period.

And to buy robots and software they will need money. As far I know, robots won't become consumers.

Moreover, robots will challenge countries where corruption is high. Many countries that are afraid of robots are really afraid that their corrupted systems are in danger. Robots won't pay taxes, the people without access to quality education won't be able to find smart or creative alternatives.

According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, we humans have to fulfil basic needs in order to excel. Therefore, if governments want their workforce thriving in the robotic age they will have to offer more access to health, education, housing and life-quality.

Two decades ago, people thought that the internet would take our jobs but today, we have endless possibilities for business and training. Because of the internet we can startup an international business from our garage. We can get an online degree. We can talk with people from all around the world, learn new languages and skills. We can order a taxi or food.

What will change?

We will get a better life, because we will get better jobs.

Robots can not (yet) debate, motivate or inspire people.

Artificial Intelligence will take over soon and only companies that can achieve superhuman performance will thrive. We will become a real asset!

Today, companies' workforces have plenty roles that didn't exist 10 years ago, like Digital Marketing Manager, Adwords Specialist, App Developer, Social Media Manager, Uber driver, Life coach, Influencer, blogger, etc.

Today, it is the sale of ideas that energizes our economy.

We will have less people working for minimum wage jobs, the young people will be able to start their career doing something more relevant than working for McDonald's or in Fish & Chips shops. They will be able to work for the community, for the environment, hospitals, schools, events, social media and many new things that will take over our agenda.

While 3D printers will be building our houses, making house prices more accessible, we will be able to re-think and plan cities and spaces.

While drones will be delivering, farming, mapping, rescuing and delivering aid we will have less traffic and pollution.

Parents will be able to work from home or on flexible hours while raising their kids.

People now can have access to products and services that they couldn't afford before. Elite services like a family holiday abroad, flight tickets, beauty therapies, massage, hotels, fitness and fancy restaurants deals are available thanks to sales group apps such as Groupon.

Companies like Airbnb enable people to lease or rent short-term apartment or rooms anywhere.

You can have affordable counselling and professional therapy online, where after pay for the session by credit card they connect you to a professional via Skype, anytime, from anywhere. You can speak to your doctor from abroad.

Once Artificial Intelligence, new technologies and software take care of our jobs we will be able to re-think our workplace and new demands will arise, and we will become a real asset, because right now we are the robots.

I am sure that robots will be fine working for more than 8 hours a day, during weekends, while creativity and people skills will be shaping the jobs of the future

Of course our lives will change, it should change, since companies started to save money and time with modern solutions and didn't increase our salaries or reduce our work-hours.

I can't wait to order my first robot!

Welcome, robots, learning software, drones and super apps! Please minimise the importance of myself inside an office so I can have a hot air balloon ride after my Monday's marketing meeting, because you robots have something that we humans don’t have: time to waste.

And we have something that you don't have yet, we are capable of anything.

Exactly! Google brought me here. More people need to discover your article! As a strong proponent of using rationality for optimised decision making, it is not too bad if the robots rule the human race. May the best always win.

It is the end of the world as we know it. The trick is to keep breathing.

Devemos evoluir e fazer algo melhor pelo nosso planeta do que passar o dia todo a favor dos meios de producao.
