They Are Not Robots - Supporting our service providers during difficult times

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented stress and hardship to society, and we must recognise that we still need to heal.

As service providers who play a crucial role in maintaining buildings and people's homes, Building Managers are just one of many service providers significantly impacted by the high-stress levels people carry.

Unfortunately, Building Managers are often the recipients of unfair treatment, particularly during times of stress. This can include disrespectful language and behaviour to a lack of appreciation for these individuals' hard work and dedication to their jobs. Several factors may contribute to this unfair treatment.

The pandemic has caused widespread uncertainty and anxiety, which can lead to increased tension and frustration. Financial struggles and a general sense of discontent may also contribute to negative interactions with service providers. It is essential to recognise that service providers also feel the effects of the pandemic and the economic downturn. They may be dealing with their stress and financial struggles, and it is unfair to take out these frustrations on them.

So what can we do to create a more positive and supportive environment for service providers? Here are my three recommendations:

  1. Strive for empathy and understanding in our interactions with them?- This means acknowledging the challenges that they are facing and treating them with respect and kindness.
  2. Seek support and resources to manage stress and anxiety -?This can include talking to a medical professional, participating in stress-reducing activities, or finding a support group. By taking care of our mental health, we can be more understanding and supportive of others.
  3. Building a sense of team and collaboration with service providers?- This can be achieved through regular communication and engagement and involving them in decision-making processes affecting their work. Treating them as valued team members can create a more harmonious work environment.

In conclusion:

  1. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented stress to society.
  2. All service providers have been significantly impacted as well.
  3. We must remember that we are all in this together and that treating others with respect and kindness can go a long way in building positive and productive relationships.

Let's create unity, not separation and work together so we can continue to create a home beyond your front door.
