Post crisis sanitation scenario with risk of human contagion, underuse of hospitality services, strong sanitation demand on preparation and delivery of hotel consumables..., this period at home fighting covid19 makes me think deeply about the future of hospitality industry, but not in terms of economy -you can read that in another article- but in terms of health and the use of robots within hospitality industry.
It is a fact that the use of robots at hotels is increasing, with uses ranging from artificial intelligence and chatbots to different types of robot assistants to improve guests’ experience. On the other hand, we are also witnessing how health tourism is a growing concept and the influence of its health management measures will be stronger after the covid19 crisis.
The same than people from different parts of the world socialize and negotiate in different ways, people from different countries are familiarized with robots at different levels. Automation and self-service are playing an increasingly vital role in the customer experience.
the use of robots leads a hotel to improvements in terms of speed and cost-effectiveness
1. Robotic systems to fight covid19
Covid19 Symptom Predictor Robots. A person′s temperature is commonly measured by another person with a termometer and that is time consuming, put hotel staff in danger of contagion and represents a higher chance of spreading the virus.
There are also delivery Robots for F&B and medical Applications, with auto navigation, smart obstacle detection and much more.
2. Uses of robots in the Hospitality Industry
The following video shows examples of robot butlers and robot luggage porters, which make use of a variety of technologies, including collision detection, Wi-Fi and AI, in order to navigate hotels and provide services.
3. Connie, the HILTON Robot Concierge
Connie is a robot concierge used by HILTON. The robot makes use of an artificial intelligence platform developed by IBM, and is able to interact with guests and respond to their questions, thanks to its speech recognition capabilities. The system also learns and adapts with each interaction, improving the answers it provides.
4. Being ECO is becoming a must
Since robots increase efficiency and work times, they also have a big impact reducin costs and energy consumptions. Being ECO is a must in hotel industry. And the are several companies offering hotel processes automation and hotel robotics.
5. The World’s First Robot-Staffed Hotel
Located in Nagasaki, Japan, Henn-na Hotel became the first hotel in the world to be entirely staffed by robots. Throughout the hotel, robots are deployed to provide information, front desk services, storage services, as well as check in and check out services, with technology including voice and facial recognition.
6. Airports and Hotels robot assistant
Airports and hotels are increasingly making use of robotic assistants, transforming the entire hospitality industry. These assistants are capable of carrying out various tasks, including room service and information provision. A key advantage is the ability for robots to offer support for a great variety of different languages.
7. Security Robots for Airports
Airport security is one of the most important areas where new technology is deployed and robots are in use here too. Knightscope robots that are increasingly being used to autonomously detect concealed weapons, helping to keep passengers safe.
Robots vs. Humans. Advantages and Disadvantages
I do think that robots and artificial intelligence are emerging as valuable solutions for the hospitality industry, and their uses are numerous. However, while robots can improve automation and perform tasks without tiring, it is important to acknowledge limitations as well, including an inability to quickly adapt to circumstances. Hotel professionals will have to adapt to a new eco world and a far more robotic hotel industry.
