Robotics Process Automation in world of Digital Revolution

The world is moving from cheaper, faster to better, cheaper solutions. This comes so true when an organization initiates its journey on digital transformation. The leaders of past who grew the organization from a few employees to thousands and from small to big scale turnovers are now pressed to think if they should continue investing on traditional ways of doing business. From first industrial revolution where handmade commodities got replaced by machine-based production houses to fourth industrial revolution a.k.a. digital revolution, and from commodity-based economy to service based economy, leaders across the globe have also reformed the way they were operating. The speed with which digital revolution is disrupting nearly every industry is taking breath away from business owners. The business strategies are changing from "being probable" to "being possible". Digital technologies help leaders take more informed decision today using multidimensional analysis across one dataset to make their best predictions for "being possible".


In the world of VUCA where everyone is making their best possible effort to add value to themselves by adding value to their clients, it is important that the talent is trained, maintained and retained. Having a complete human workforce doing the job would always bring in challenges related to emotions, societal presence and consistent knowledge upskilling which would eventually lead to drainage of talent. The biggest challenge for any organization is to have trained talent pool always available for uncertain situations. Human beings at execution level will always have an age threshold to learn and upskill which will bring you back to "train" the talent and then maintain them. Automation through Robotics can bring useful solution in these situations. While robotics is a possible solution but should not be considered as the only solution to a much larger issue.


Robotic Process Automation aims at automating service operations and fits well in today's digitally guided economy. It introduces the concept of virtual workforce doing the same amount of work and even more with greater accuracy. It ensures round the clock availability with no signs of aging and tiredness. For a young organization it is imperative that their operating model will be oriented towards smart technologies. However, for an older organization which has spent considerable time looking at ups and downs of economics it is like a life-saving drug to adopt to new technology oriented operating model. The world has already seen examples of Xerox, Nokia, E-bay and many others those were late in adopting to digital revolutions. The use of technology has grown over the times and organizations have come a long way from traditional code-based solutions to more intelligent solutions using emerging technologies like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Automation, IoT etc. In recent years, there has been a surge in companies offering automation solutions as a service, although only a few offer robust solutions.


An organization may choose on any tool, service provider or develop capabilities inhouse but the first important checkbox is to test and validate the appetite and potential for adoption to Robotics. Robotics is deemed to bring in a lot of efficiency, take away attrition related costs, take away risk of talent drain and more importantly help protect intellectual rights to organizations. Leaders today have to think if they need to invest in cheap, reliable, smart solutions or continue investing in traditional operating model.
