Interested in exploring opportunities to raise capital?
After visiting Japan last month and talking with AusTrade and TiQ, our Board Chair, Dr. Sue Keay, was struck by the potential for Japanese investment in Australian robotics companies - particularly?those in the METS sector.??"Japan has a very low cost of capital matched with large corporate VC funds that have a long-term outlook and are often a good channel to market." "According to AusTrade there is a quick, low-cost way for Australian companies to assess opportunities for Japanese investment through participation in the annual Innovation Leaders Summit to be held in December." https://ils.tokyo/
"Companies can add their details?to the site and see how many matches they get with investors. If there are a large number of potential investors and meetings that can be scheduled, AusTrade recommends attending the event in person (with business cards translated into Japanese). If you have a low number of matches you can take the meetings virtually from Australia."
"As access to capital is the #1 issue facing Australian robotics companies this seems like a useful experiment to trial. If anyone does try this matching service please give feedback to Robotics Australia Group and in turn we will report back to AusTrade."
ANFF-C Seminar - Legal Due Diligence: What is it and how do I prepare for it?

As a Smart City leader, are you looking at how new technologies like public-area mobile robots might be used to improve operations, address labour shortages and enhance accessibility? Have you been asked to report back to your executive leaders on how to prepare for deploying mobility innovations for autonomously transporting people or goods? Or how you might integrate robotics and AI in your maintenance or security operations?
It is not too early to start preparing for the inevitable arrival of PMRs, even if they are not already part of your urban ecosystem today.
Register today! The fee is A$150 to attend this valuable and informative workshop. https://www.urbanroboticsfoundation.org/event-details/discovery-workshop-for-pmrs-asia-pacific-sept-4
Learning Objectives:
- Examine the wide variety of Use Cases for public-area mobile robots (PMRs)
- Review the Opportunities and Challenges, Barriers and Risks associated with deployment
- Understand the 6 Governance Deployment Pillars and 5 Maturity Stages for adopting this new technology
- Get prepared to generate value while addressing the key challenges - ranging from licensing and insurance to public acceptance and certification.
Who should attend: municipal/government leaders, city council members, facility operations executives (facilities serving the public, such as airports, hospitals, parks, shopping malls, universities), urban planners, traffic planners, logistics operators providing last-mile services, maintenance operators contracted to facilities, security operators intending to add security robots to their operations, airport or hospitals adding robots to move goods or passengers, mobility researchers, and robotics innovators. We are excited to announce that our network members have the exclusive opportunity to promote their company at the 7th IFAC Workshop on Mining, Mineral, and Metal Processing (MMM) 2024, held in Brisbane this September.
Date: 4-6 September 2024 Location: Brisbane, Australia Scope: Automation, control, and optimization in mining, mineral, and metal processing
Automation in the mining, minerals, and metal processing enhances the efficiency of the processes by optimising the use of resources, reducing waste, and minimising human errors. Automated systems increase productivity and utilisation of assets. They also improve safety by reducing the need for human presence in hazardous environments.
The 7th IFAC Workshop on Mining, Mineral and Metal Processing (IFAC MMM) aims to provide a platform for researchers, practitioners, and experts from various fields to exchange knowledge, present their research findings, and discuss advancements related to the automation, control, and optimization of mining, minerals, and metal processing industries.
Key Topics:
Automation and Control in Mining Mineral Processing and Beneficiation Metallurgical Processes and Smelting Process Optimization and Modelling Sensor Technologies and Instrumentation Integration of Technologies Safety and Environmental Concerns Artificial Intelligence in Mining
Also, 6 companies have the opportunity to share space with us at the conference but they have to register as a?delegate first.
We hope to see you there!

Exciting One-Day Cutting Edge Symposium on March 27, 2025
We are thrilled to announce an upcoming one-day Cutting Edge Symposium on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at CSIRO Clayton, VIC. This event will unite Australian and international researchers eager to explore the application of machine learning (ML) for autonomous, real-time decision-making across various domains.
Historically, industrial productivity has seen significant leaps with the introduction of machines during the Industrial Revolution, their electrification in the 1840s, and their automation in the 1960s. The next major leap is expected to come from machines, devices, and processes that can 'think for themselves.' Advanced decision-making in real-world, unpredictable environments—known as ‘unstructured’ environments—requires ML techniques. These techniques can process large datasets quickly to make context-sensitive decisions, crucial for applications across multiple domains, including autonomous cars.
The symposium will feature keynote lectures from global domain experts (details will follow), discussing the integration of traditional physics-based models with ML to improve decision-making capabilities. Validated physics models can provide 'clean' datasets for training ML models, facilitating more accurate and efficient real-time decisions.
The event will also include optional lab tours and a coding workshop on the following day, Friday, March 28, 2025.
We invite your company to advertise at the symposium with the following sponsorship options:
-Platinum, Gold, and Cocktail Sponsors: Advertise on banners (printed by us; dimensions to be provided) and receive 5 minutes for a pitch before the cocktail networking session. -All Sponsors: Logos will be displayed proportionately on the symposium website, live from September.?
Sponsorship proceeds will support early-career researchers by offering discounts on registration fees and poster competition prizes.
To finalize sponsorships and determine registration fees, please let us know if you would like to take any slot within 14 days of receiving this newsletter. Slots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. For any questions, feel free to get in touch with us.
We look forward to your participation in this event!
