Advancing Robotics in Construction: Insights from the Australian Construction Robotics Forum
Last week, we met in Melbourne with the Australian Construction Robotics Forum (ACRF) for another round of discussions among head contractors to advance the use of robotics in construction. The ACRF is a non-competitive working group comprised of members from the Australian Constructors Association (ACA) and supported by the Robotics Australia Group formed to overcome systemic barriers to the adoption of robotics in construction. Construction across all verticals – commercial, housing, and infrastructure – has challenges in productivity, safety, labour shortage, and an ageing workforce that need to be addressed by all parties. Yesterday’s discussions are another step in the right direction. Look out for the upcoming whitepaper from the ACRF discussing the value, the challenges and the opportunities of robotics in construction in Australia. We want to thank our RAG sponsors, John Holland, for hosting this event, and Laing O'Rourke for their valuable contribution to the Australian robotics community. We also greatly appreciate the participation and support of all the other forward-looking head contractors in attendance today: Clough Group, CPB Contractors, Fulton Hogan, Ghella, and Multiplex. Their commitment to collaboration and innovation is crucial to driving progress in the construction industry.

Hunter-Based Tech Company Robotic Systems Launches Jetscreen AI Tablet for Mobile Mining Equipment
Revolutionising Edge AI Processing in Harsh Mining Environments
Newcastle, Australia – Our network member, Robotic Systems, a leading innovator in industrial mining technology, today announced the launch of its groundbreaking Jetscreen AI Tablet, the first in a series of products designed to bring edge AI processing to mobile mining equipment in remote and challenging environments.
The Jetscreen AI Tablet is a cutting-edge hardware solution that provides off-the-shelf capability to deploy real-time AI processing for mobile mining applications. With AI processing power equivalent to approximately 100 conventional industrial tablets, the Jetscreen supports up to 22 simultaneous gigabit camera streams and features optional configurable IO ports. Its rugged design ensures reliable operation in extreme temperatures ranging from -20°C to +70°C and it is IP 65 rated (or higher for dust and water protection), making it ideal for the demanding conditions of mining sites.
As the mining industry increasingly adopts AI to enhance in-field operations, the need for robust, cost-effective hardware has become critical. Current market options are often unsuitable for edge AI processing or require prohibitively expensive development. The Jetscreen AI Tablet addresses this gap, offering a powerful, reliable, and affordable solution tailored to the unique challenges of remote mining environments.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Jetscreen AI Tablet, a product that embodies our commitment to innovation and excellence in industrial mining technology,” said Bradd Perkins, Director of Innovation Engagement at Robotic Systems. “This launch marks a significant milestone in our mission to provide cutting-edge solutions that empower our clients to operate more efficiently and effectively in even the harshest conditions. It also reduces the cost of development for our customers deploying AI solutions in-the-field, which allows them to free up capital to?invest elsewhere.”
Robotic Systems specialises in industrial design, development, and manufacturing services for innovative mining technology. The company’s streamlined process enables rapid product development, transforming ideas into working prototypes in under four months. Combined with its in-house manufacturing capabilities, Robotic Systems delivers a complete end-to-end solution for low-volume, high-value technology products.
