ELO2 Consortium Unveils Lunar Rover Prototype at Andy Thomas Space Foundation Forum in Sydney
In a momentous event held at The Andy Thomas Space Foundation forum in Sydney, the ELO2 Consortium proudly presented its early lunar rover prototype. Under the auspices of the Australian Space Agency’s Moon to Mars Trailblazer Program, the project aims to deploy the rover on the Moon as part of a forthcoming NASA Artemis mission later in this decade.
This national endeavor brings together Australia’s top engineering and research talents from various corners of the country, uniting to create a project that all Australians can take pride in.
Co-leading this ambitious initiative are the ELO2 Consortium and their esteemed partners, Lunar Outpost. The collaboration extends to a stellar lineup of consortium partners, including Element Robotics, Inovor Technologies, The Australian National University, University of Melbourne, RMIT University, University of Adelaide, Saber Astronautics, Vipac Engineers & Scientists, Titomic, BHP, Northrop Grumman Australia, Colorado School of Mines, and the dedicated team from One Giant Leap Australia Foundation.
School Update
ARTEMIS Robotics: Empowering STEM for a Fairer World
ARTEMIS, Abbotsleigh Senior School's all-girls robotics team, is actively shaping the landscape of STEM in Australia. As the longest-running girls' team in the country, ARTEMIS, represented by Team 5876 in FIRST Robotics, extends its influence across FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Lego League. Entirely funded by Abbotsleigh, the team is a testament to dedication, blending students, Abbotsleigh employees, and volunteer mentors. Achieving notable success in 2023, including the Team Spirit Award at the South Pacific Regional FIRST Robotics Competition and victories in the FRC Duel Down Under and Melbourne Robotics Tournament, ARTEMIS excels both in competition and community outreach.
The team hosts impactful programs like STEM Night, featuring STEM leaders in talks similar to TED talks, attracting over 380 attendees from 20+ schools. ARTEMIS volunteers at St Edmund's College, teaching LEGO robotics to special-needs students. Additionally, the North to West Lego program, initiated during Abbotsleigh's Immersion Week, promotes STEM education at Werrington Public School. Embodying its mission, "STEM for a fairer world," ARTEMIS emphasizes inspiring youth, empowering women in STEM, and making STEM accessible to disadvantaged groups. From their foundational involvement in FIRST robotics to pioneering initiatives like the Apollo’s Hand program, ARTEMIS strives to redefine the narrative around robotics, showcasing its true essence as a community-driven force for positive change.

Robotics Council First Meeting!
The Robotics Council held its meeting on Monday, December 11th, as it convened for its inaugural meeting under the leadership of esteemed Chair, Distinguished Professor Peter Corke. Bringing together a diverse group of influential thought leaders across sectors, the Council is laying the groundwork for shaping the future of robotics advocacy in Australia. The meeting served as a dynamic platform for Council members to exchange insights and strategize on initiatives aligned with the Network Rules. Distinguished Professor Corke emphasized the pivotal role of the Council in fostering economic, social, and environmental benefits on a national scale. The Robotics Australia Group extends its sincere gratitude to each dedicated Council member for their commitment to building a thriving robotics industry, and we are looking forward to impactful outcomes that will start to flow, setting the stage for continued advancements in Australian robotics.
